This historical conspiracy thriller follows the 12-day chase for Lincoln's killer. DK created a title sequence that instantly drops viewers into the largest manhunt in US history.
Degraded imagery calls attention to one man’s ire, as well as the terror of a threatened nation.
An emotive and modern lens on history
Created with showrunner Monica Beletsky, the title's concept draws inspiration from the swelling national tensions formed in the wake of Lincoln's assassination, the nationwide pursuit of his killer, and the backdrop of post-Civil War America.
We restored, colorized, and projection mapped Civil War era images, seamlessly integrating them with live-action footage and animation.
A nation's fate hanging in the balance
The sequence captures the spirit of the hunt, Booth's boiling rage, and an anxious nation grappling with loss, threatened by further division.
To imbue a sense of urgency and turmoil, we developed a “corrosive” effect inspired by daguerrotype processes from the 1800s, where photography is torn from its emulsion.
Building tension and suspense
We utilized a kinetic editorial style that quickens across the sequence to capture the conceit of a thriller, combining time-lapse photography, 3D photogrammetry, and an original musical composition by Danielle Ponder.
