Yellowjackets chronicles the descent of a girl’s soccer team whose plane crashes in the wilderness, leaving them stranded and warring against each other to survive. We created a dark and eerie 90s nostalgia ride to set the tone of the show from the very first episode.

We wanted to take viewers into the grungy, alt-rock vibe of the show. We asked ourselves, what if the girls had carried camcorders, filming every moment of their experience?

Building a cryptic puzzle

Showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco enlisted DK to create the enigmatic main titles for the teenage thriller horror series. The psychological drama, set between two time periods, deserved an opening sequence that would spark curiosity.

An homage to 90s alt culture

Inspired by 120 Minutes and The Blair Witch Project, we combined a mix of custom live-action footage and on-set b-roll to offer a glimpse into the characters' lives before and after the plane crash.

Adding in flashes from the tormented present-day characters, and snippets of the story to come, we had all of the components necessary to create an intricate puzzle.

Captured on old DV camcorders, the footage was run through analogue glitch processing to establish the unique video distortion.

The result is a main title that takes viewers back in time to the innocence and nostalgia of teenagehood, while hinting at the cruel darkness lurking just below the surface.
